- Please call our office on the next work day of the week to schedule a check-up appointment for two weeks or as directed. Please come 30 minutes early to fill out your paperwork.
- Add baby to your insurance policy within 30 days. Bring your insurance card at your two week visit so we can verify coverage.
- If your child was born at Baylor Grapevine, you can bring your child to the Lab Draw Station in the Professional Office Building in 1-2 weeks for the second newborn screen. If your child was born at Las Colinas Medical Center, you can bring your child back to the nursery for the second newborn screen. If your child was born elsewhere, we will do the test at your two week check-up. If your child’s laboratory results are abnormal, we will contact you six weeks after the test.
- Alcohol the umbilical cord at least three times a day until the cord falls off. The cord can have yellow mucous discharge and blood tinged discharge as it comes closer to falling off. The baby may be switched from sponge baths to tub baths after the cord is off. The cord will usually come off within three weeks.
- When breast feeding, supplementing is not routinely needed and can suppress the milk supply. For the first two week, breast feed 8 to 12 times daily for 10 minutes on each side.
- Put your baby to sleep in a bassinet or crib on a firm surface (not parent’s bed) on side or back. Avoid keeping the baby too warm.
- Try to avoid cigarette smoke around the baby.
- Avoid prolonged (more than 2 hours) contact with large groups of other children, i.e., church nurseries and mother’s day out for the first two months.
- Notify our office is any of the following occur:
- Baby does not eat at least six times in a 24 hour period.
- Baby does not have at least three wet diapers in a 24 hour period. New super absorbent diapers make it hard to tell. If unsure, place a Kleenex inside to check wetness.
- Baby has a rectal temperature of 101° or more the first 2 months.
- Baby’s skin color over chest area or whites of eyes are bright yellow.
- Baby vomits green colored fluid.
- After circumcision, the entire shaft of the penis is bright red and swollen.
- There is blood in the baby’s stool.
- For routine appointments and questions, you can reach us at the office number Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm at 972.331.7200.
