If a child has: (1.) fever greater than 100 and cough or sore throat OR (2.) at least 2 of the following: runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, cough AND history of travel to Mexico within the last 7 days OR contact with a person diagnosed with Influenza A......this child should be given an appointment to rule out influenza H1N1.
While awaiting confirmation testing, have your child avoid crowds and keep your child home from school, cover nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, dispose of used tissue properly, clean hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and warm water frequently.
Using these precautionary measures also apply to anyone wishing to avoid exposure to H1N1. If the child is not ill, WE DO NOT ADVISE STAYING OUT OF SCHOOLS WHEN THESE SCHOOLS ARE OPEN AND HAVE NOT BEEN CLOSED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
